Land Grant Litter Cleanup

The Taos News recently covered the Las Trampas Land Grant’s presentation to the state legislature’s interim Water and Natural Resources Committee, which met in Taos on Sept. 29. Board President Juan P. Lopez described the land grant’s plans for a community-scale forest products facility on its 12.5-acre special use permit site in the Carson National Forest. The facility would include a portable sawmill, debarker, wood dryer and pellet mill to turn thinning debris into firewood, fence posts, rough lumber, mulch and stove pellets. The article also notes our land grant’s existing work, including paying local leñeros to thin acre blocks. It also reports the land grant’s request for $451,117.50 in state capital funding to move the project forward. Read the full story here.
